Narrative

MERRILLVILLE, IN – A man died, and two people sustained injuries Sunday in an auto-pedestrian crash involving two vehicles in northeast Lake County.

The accident occurred shortly before midnight near mile marker 254 on the southbound side of I-65 in Merrillville, which is about 142 miles northwest of Indianapolis.

Police say that a southbound Ford Flex struck a man that was standing next to his disabled 2005 Cadillac in the right lane of travel. The Flex then collided with both a concrete barrier and another vehicle.

The pedestrian, identified as 58-year-old Anthony Drake of Gary, died at the scene.

Medics transported the driver of the Flex and the driver of the third vehicle to an area hospital with non-critical injuries.

A full investigation is underway.
